I just realized it’s been about 6 weeks since I’ve posted anything on this blog! Oops!  If you don’t already follow our Mole Ministry Blog – there have been a few recent posts.

MOLE BLOG VS LIFE OFFERING BLOG

I was recently asked what the difference is between this blog and the Mole Ministry one.We started this blog in 2008, back when we lived in St. Louis du Nord. It was our way to share the latest family drama with friends and supporters.

This website used to have our name “Castillo” as part of the title. BUT no one (including my mom) could spell it correctly! LOL!

So my sister actually came up with “Life Offering” since we have offered-up our lives to serve His people in Haiti.

When we moved to the Mole, we wanted to allow groups the opportunity to share about their experiences “in real time”. We wanted their families & friends to comment and follow along their journey.

We also wanted to allow for other missionaries and interns to have the chance to write and share about whatever ministry they were involved in at the moment. So we created the Mole Ministry Blog for all of those purposes.

Sadly, we are the only missionaries left here… and we haven’t had teams in nearly 4 years. So basically it’s just me updating both… trying to decipher if  what I want to write is more about my family or more about the ministry as a whole. Most of the time it’s both! 🙂

Here’s A Look At Some Of My Past Facebook Posts

February 5th:

It’s been 4 years since we’ve had consistent teams. Though I know the capital city is still full of gang violence and Haiti is a hot mess… this post is just as true today as it was back then.
There is no one to light their lamp for. 🙁
(Shared back in 2018)

Thinking about coming to Haiti? Can I just nudge you a little tonight and share my heart?

This year is a slow year for the Mole. We don’t have very many teams signed up. The Haitians have asked me whether or not the people are afraid? Or if they have moved on? Or if they have forgotten about them?

And often times anxiety/fear is the reason why folks don’t sign up. I chuckle to myself when I hear that Haiti is “dangerous” because there’s WAY more crime and random acts of violence in the states than I’ve ever known in Haiti.

Here’s the thing…. when Americans come to Haiti they represent HOPE. They’re a tangible reminder of God’s goodness because of the way they build relationships and engage the community.

We have visited fishing villages and they have told us that it’s been months since someone has come by. They’ve told us – seeing us show up out of nowhere – it’s a reminder that God’s not forgotten about them either.

My parents used to sing this song when I was little: My house is full but my fields are empty. Who will go and work for me today? It seems like everybody wants to sit around my table…but no one will work in my field.

I could tell you story after story of the abuse, sex-trafficking, & tragedies that we walk through daily. God has called us here but the field is large and the work is more than we can do alone. We need people willing to get their hands dirty planting & watering seeds alongside us.

I’m reminded of the story that Mother Theresa shared about the nuns who were cleaning the houses of elderly patients in India. A nun was going to clean an old oil lantern for an elderly gentleman.

As she was getting ready to wipe it down the old man said, “No, just leave it.” The nun asked him “WHY?”

He said, “No one comes to visit me. Who am I going to light my lamp for?”

Many Haitians sit around in darkness not knowing that there is light…. not understanding what that light represents. Do they even know that there’s a way out of their darkness through the light of Jesus Christ?

God has called us to stomp out the darkness here….you see darkness cannot hide from the light.

Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

Can you imagine gathering in a mud & stick hut and bringing down the very presence of God through that straw roof?

I’m on fire for Jesus and I want our Haitian brothers and sisters to experience His undeniable presence. As Christians we do all we can to feel God’s presence… and now we could be offering them a chance to have that same life-changing moment.

But the burning question remains – Who are they going to light their lamp for?

This makes me laugh! We really should read this before every Game Day! They still cheat all the time! 😂🤣

(Posted from 2018)

Every Wednesday we rotate who leads our Haitian Staff Devotions. Last week was Jose’s turn. I typically try to help him prepare his message…. but last week I told him he needed to come up with it on his own! AND that he did! 😊

Nearly every time we play games with the staff – they cheat. They’re like little kids – seriously! 😂

This week is game week. He thought it was a good idea in preparation to share this…

This post popped up on my Memory Wall from 2019! These kids…

(From 2019)

Today’s school writing assignment was: Where will you live and what do you think your life will look like when you are an adult?

Rosie: I will live in Haiti and be a teacher. 🥰

Gabe: I will live in Hollywood with my hot wife who is a movie star. My daughter is a model and my son is a cop. We are really rich but we share it with Haiti. But please mom, don’t beg me for money. I’ve got a lot of bills to pay. 😳

Asher: I am a cop and I live part-time in Kentucky and part-time in Haiti with my wife Sadie. We’ve got a couple of kids. They drive me crazy. 🤔

Levi: I will live in San Francisco with my wife who is a lawyer and I’m a pilot. We’ve got 2 girls and a son. My son is a cop and I’m really proud of him. My daughters give me issues. They just won’t listen.
